I first heard the term "doula" while pregnant with my daughter in 2003. At that time, I read everything I could get my hands on about birth.
Knowledge was power and I felt that the more I understood, the more pleasant a birth experience I would have.
I was introduced to Doulas of North America (DONA International) through my reading and found it all quite interesting and yearned to learn more.
After becoming pregnant with my second daughter in 2005, I decided I would enroll in a DONA Birth Doula Workshop. Giving birth to my children was life
altering in many ways. Yes, there were late nights and a shift in responsibilities, but there was another change that I hadn't anticipated;
I felt drawn to the miracle of birth. I wanted to be part of the birthing process, to help other mothers have the best possible
birth experiences.
Shortly after my second daughter's birth, I decided to become a stay-at-home-mother. This change has given me more time to focus on my goal of
becoming a birth doula. As a doula in the certification process, I am currently working with mothers who would like to have a doula present at their birth.
